Business benefits from high-quality education systems and has an interest to give all children, youth, and adults the opportunity to reach their potential. UNESCO, UNICEF, the Office of the UN Special Envoy for Global Education, and the UN Global Compact jointly developed a business engagement resource for global education that is a broad-based and action-oriented tool aimed at helping business align their investments in education to promote shared value. The resource, “Smartest Investment: A Framework for Business Engagement in Education,” was launched at the UN Global Compact’s Leaders’ Summit in September 2013.
In the development of the guidance document, consultations are taking place at the Global Business Coalition for Education’s New York headquarters, the UNESCO Paris Headquarters and through a global public consultation. These consultations collected feedback from business, education experts, academia and practitioners on how business can play a catalytic and sustainable role in supporting education.
