Gordon Brown rings Wall Street opening bell
Former Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah ring the bell to open Tuesday trading at the New York Stock Exchange.
Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah were joined by a group of excited children as they rang the world-famous opening bell to start trading on Wall Street on Tuesday.
They are in New York to promote the Global Business Coalition for Education, an organization that brings together corporate leaders committed to delivering on the promise of quality education for children all over the world.
Mr Brown, who is the UN Special Envoy for Global Education, will join the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon at the UN General Assembly this week to launch Education First, a UN initiative to put education at the top of the development agenda.
Mrs Brown, an avid Twitter user, took to the social networking site to described ringing the bell as an "amazing experience" for an "excellent cause".(via The Telegraph)
