In support of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Global Education First Initiative, hundreds of young leaders from around the world representing nearly 100 different countries and over 100 different partner organizations convened in support of reaching the goal of all children, especially girls, in school and learning by 2015. On her 16th birthday, Malala Yousafzai delivered a speech on global education – her first public speech since being targeted by the Taliban for her commitment to education. A series of events including a UN Youth Assembly, Youth Workshop and a Youth Fair were part of the “UN Youth Takeover” event.
